The Name
So what does Hippo Lane mean? Good question. What does it have to do with beer or writing or travel? I’d love to give you an answer.
Truthfully, there isn’t really a meaning. It’s something that appeared in my brain. The words floated about and I could easily see the picture: hippos bathing and wallering on a street, eating, drinking; a marching band playing on the balcony of a saloon. It’s a nice image. That’s all I wanted–something pleasant and easy to say, something that would be easy to remember.
I think, not so secretly, that I someday want to write and illustrate children books (my all-time favorite author is Roald Dahl). I will someday write and record an album that will be described as an orchestral, country, Muppet sing-a-long; there will be many different strange voices.
I like things that are childish, innocent, pleasant. I think, even though the subject matter is always changing, that’s what this blog is about. Sure, I’ll go political from time to time, cast aspersions, be critical, etc., but hopefully, it’s all in good taste, is polite, sincere, and aimed to promote good.
So, in the end, Hippo Lane means good. Not good as in quality, per se, but good as in good triumphs over evil.
